Police Brutality: Okenwa urges IGP to deal decisively with officers engaged in professional misconduct

The converner of One Nigeria Reality Project, a peace ambassador with the National Orientation Agency and director Queens’ Model Schools Enugu has called on the Inspector General of Police to deal decisively with some officers in the force who do not value the sanctity of lives especially as it has to do with a school environment,where the future of the Nation is framed.
Director of the Queens’ Model Schools, Mr Chukwuma Okenwa told Journalists in Enugu that the call became necessary when police officers jettisoned their duty post and engaged in harassment, humiliation and intimidation of school Headmistress in effort to satisfy a staff of Enugu South Local government of Enugu state.
Okenwa alleged that on Tuesday,the 18th day of June,2019 at about 13:00 hours that
Mr Aneke, a staff of  Enugu South Local government stormed their School premises(Nursery/Primary Section) with Four police officers,three of which were fully armed with assault rifles claiming to have come on a drive to recover Local Government Revenues such as Advert rate,capitation for which the Enugu State Governor in a Rally with School proprietors declared as illegal and consequently asked all Local Government drive team to stay away.
He said also claimed that the Police officers at the instruction of Mr Aneke, dragged the Headmistress of the school,Mrs Chijioke right before the pupils of the School and the staff,consequently the all female staff of the school persuaded the officers to leave the Headmistress and wait till the School director, Chukwuma Okenwa who had been contacted arrives, Okenwa stated.
“Attempts made by the Female teachers who were already vexed with the malhandling from the officers,led to the cocking of the gun by a police officer,identified as Ken in the presence of the kids and that led to a situation where the kids of the school scampered for safety”.
“Upon arrival of the school director at the vicinity,Mr Aneke who is well known to the school director,ordered his driver to leave at once”.
Reformist online news magazine was reliably informed that the School director who sought audience with him, stopped right in front of his vehicle with the intent of having a dialogue with him, but the same police officer,Ken was allegedly pointed his gun, cocked it and threatened to kill the School Director, Okenwa noted.
” But for the spontenious  shouts from the staff of the school,the pupils who were watching the show of shame and passerby,Ken would have possibly accomplished his threats”.
Okenwa,who is the converner of One Nigeria Reality Project and a peace ambassador with the National Orientation Agency,and who also Journalists in Enugu that he reached out to the Enugu State Command and it was discovered that the officers were from a jurisdiction different from where the school is situated and that the Divisional Police Officer, D.P.O was not aware of their movement.
The school director also expressed delight and
while Commending the Enugu State Command for the immediate steps taken to show disapproval for professional misconduct, however, ordered for immediate disarmament of the boys and is currently looking into the case.
