Ebonyi Community Agog As Haijia Umar Farouq Brings Reliefe Materials To The Community

THERE was jubilation in Azuofia-Edda Community in Ebonyi State on Thursday when the  Federal National Commission For Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCRMI) officials brought relief materilas to the people of the area.

The delegation led by the Federal Commissioner for NCRMI, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq, brought smiles to the faces of the victims of a boundary clash with Obruba community from Cross River State.The people of the area were full of emotion as tears of joy rolling down their cheeks in appreciation of the gesture from the Commission.

Speaking at the occasion, the Federal Commissioner of NCRMI, Hajia Umar Farouq, recalled that hearing of the force displacement of the people of Azuofia-Edda Community, the Commission bearing in mind its mandate on IDPs, mobilized its staff to intervene by coming down here to deliver food, non-food materials as well as drugs on February 7, 2017.

Haijia Umar Farouq who had earlier opened the regional office of the Commission as well as declaring open a 2-day workshop in Enugu, said that during the visit, the Commission took into account the need for provision of shelter materials to support the state government efforts in rebuilding the destroyed houses. 

“On the strength of the above, we have come once more not only to identify and empathize with your plight, but to also deliver some materials to support the state government’s efforts towards the rehabilitation of the displaced persons from Azuofia-Edda Community” she  stated.

The NCRMI Boss further said, “The NCFRMI recognizes its humanitarian mandate as well as the critical condition of these vulnerable groups and consider it incumbent on them to intensify efforts in providing protection, assistance as well as durable solutions to these people

“The relief materials worth thousands of naira which were delivered to the victims included roofing sheets, cement, digger, blocks, wood, wheel barrow, shovel. head-pan, nail, loader, asbestos ceiling sheet, fascia.One of the internally displaced persons who gave his name as Chijioke Nwabe, commended the Federal Government for giving them the relief materials but appealed to the Government to proffer a lasting solution to the boarder clash between them and the Cross River State.

“As I am talking to you now, I have no house because it was destroyed by our enemies from Cross River State. Tell the government to protect us”, he added.
