COCONU kicks off Table Tennis Championship in Enugu

A non governmental organization widely described as Carl Oliver Christian Odumegwu Ndubisi Ugwunkwo foundation, COCONU, has concluded its plans to kick off a one day table tennis championship in Oji River Enugu State.

The one day table tennis Championship will take place at St Paul’s College Oji River in Oji River local government area of Enugu State in November 15, 2019 involving male and female categories.

The Chairman organizing committee of the tournament, Mr Pius Ezechukwu who disclosed this to Reformist online news magazine in Enugu said that the tournament was in remembrance of his nephew Mr Carl Ugwunkwo a Sheffield University graduate and keen sports man.

According to Ezechukwu, Mr Carl Ugwunkwo played Rugby Football in London for London Nigerian Rugby Football team.

“He was named the London Nigerian Club man of the year 2003 and he died in London in 2006 at the age of 32 years”.

” The tournament began 2013 by the foundation and this year’s competition is expected to be involving greater number of both male and female players from Oji River local government area of Enugu state” .

He also stated that it remains one of the efforts of the foundation to mobilize the youths of the area to engage in sporting activities.

Ezechukwu also stated that in future the foundation will finance other sports competitions apart from the table tennis tournament that will be taken place on 15 November, 2019.
