…Wants Development of Rural Areas
From Alphonsus Nweze
The Chairman of newly formed non-partisan pressure group in Anambra State, Anambra Redemption Movement (ARM), Chief Oraegbubam Anene, has called the political leaders in the State to redirect the focus of their development from urban areas to rural areas of the State.
Fielding questions from newsmen during the inaugural meeting of ARM in Onitsha, the Anambra commercial nerve centre, the chairman challenged the State Government and politicians to focus their attention in providing their democracy dividend to such rural areas like Umungbowo, Umuolum and others in Ayamelum Local Government and communities in Anambra West Local Government Area of the State.
He said in most of these communities there are no basic amenities like power, accessible roads, portable drinking water among others.
He said time had come when Government and politicians should de-emphasize concentrating social and basic amenities in urban areas of the State.
Explaining the motive behind the inauguration of ARM, the chairman who is Ebubedike of Onitsha Ado said that they want to ensure quality representation by elected politicians and political appointees.
He frowned at the politicians who make money at the expense of their constituents and the poor masses they represent, without remembering that these people voted for them.
He said the movement is not for the highest bidder, noting “most of these politicians know they can’t buy me over. Even in the just concluded election they wanted to buy me over but it was not possible. I had somebody who was working for the people and I couldn’t have abandoned him”
.Chief Anene agreed that part of the aim of the movement was to make themselves relevant in 2021 governorship election in the State.
The Secretary of the Movement, Mr. Thompson Chikezie, said the group was a platform to salvage the State from political crisis, ensure performance by political office holders, equity in appointment and employment and true representation by the the representatives
Chikezie who is a legal practitioner said the group is a non-political and encompassing all politicians in the Anambra North Senatorial zone, although the group will spread to other parts of the State in near future.
He said ” the group seeks the welfare of the people of Anambra North Senatorial zone. It is for good leadership. We want to make ourselves formidable for future election. We want equity”.
The Secretary said based on their past experiences they would not rush to back any aspirant for governorship in 2021 , stressing that when the time comes they will back eligible person who has credibility to promote good governance.
