The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, flag-bearer, Enugu North local government area, Hon Emmanuel Onoh, has pledged to harness the abundant commercial and industrial potentials of the area with a view to improving the economic base of the people.
Onoh who gave the hint in an interview with Journalists at the Council Headquarters Enugu shortly after the local government PDP primary election, stated that since the local government was very strategic having been the seat of power of Enugu state government and the business hob of the state, concerted efforts should be made to reposition the economic life of the people in line with the state government economic policy.
He said that his aim for developing a blue-print on new economic policy was necessitated by the apparent need to grow the economy of the council area especially now that the reduction in the oil revenue was taking its tolls on the economic life of the people. He appealed to the people of Enugu North local government to support him so that his lofty dreams would be realized in no distant time.
The flag-bearer assured that his administration would not only give women in the area adequate recognition in the scheme of things but also prosecute youth development programme to reduce poverty and social vices associated with idleness.
Onoh also pledged to make the salaries of workers a top priority in his list to promote industrial harmony in the council, adding that proper motivation of workers would enable them discharge their duties effectively.
He used the opportunity to pay glowing tribute to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his wonderful performance, stressing that the governor’s style of leadership has sparked off rapid developmental activities in the rural areas of Enugu state.
The PDP candidate further thanked the stakeholders and members of the PDP for giving him the opportunity to contest the Chairmanship election under the platform of PDP, assuring that he would justify the confidence reposed on him through hard work and unflinching commitment to the affairs of the people.
In his speech, the Caret-taker committee Chairman, Enugu North local government, Hon John Eze described Onoh as a grass root politician whose philanthropic spirit knew no bounds.
Hon Eze said that members of PDP in Enugu North local government were like members of one family, stressing that the peaceful conduct of the primary elections in all the Wards and local government levels gave credence to the fact that peace reigns supreme in PDP Enugu North local government chapter.
In a remark, the Chairman PDP Enugu North local government area Mr Okey Ezeike, expressed joy that right candidate was elected to fly the flag of the party come November 4, local government election and commended members of the party for their wise decision.
He made it clear that PDP is a party to beat, and appealed to its members to work hard during the forthcoming election to ensure total victory for the party.
The exercise which started with accreditation of delegates followed by actual voting was well attended by party men and women in the area including ENSIEC officials who monitored the election.
