Herdsmen: South East Govs. Can’t Defend Ndigbo–Anakwe

From Alphonsus Nweze

The unbridled sympathy of South East Governors for President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), will make it impossible for them to stop the killings, kidnappings, rappings and maimings of their citizens by the Fulani Herdsmen.
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and a prominent opinion leader in Anambra State, Chief Pius Ozo Anakwe, stated this during an interview with newsmen in Onitsha.
Chief Anakwe who was the President-General of Onitsha Amalgamated Traders Association (OMATA), said the Governorrs were ready to betray their people because of their selfish interest than to offend President Buhari.
He said the people of the South East were in a hurry to see these Governors complete their tenure, so that they would elect credible leaders in the mould of late Dr. Michael Okpara, Chiefs Sam Mbakwe and C.C. Onoh, who can stand for the interest of their people no matter the situation.
He dismissed the latest arrangement by South East to set up forest guard as smokescreen , descring it as a mere ploy to deceive the uncritical public.
“If they are serious to safeguard our forest, and stop herdsmen from killing and maiming our people, rapping our women and girls, they should laise with all the Presidents-General of the town unions of communities in the zone with the security outfits, preferably the Department of State Security (DSS) to comb all the their forests at least twice a week”.
Anakwe lauded human right activists, the media and some few elites in the country who fought to checkmate the excesses of operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),the DSS and other law enforcement agencies against indiscriminate arrest of Judges even in unholy hours of night.
Stressing that it was an abomination which has never happened before anywhere in the world, Anakwe appealed to Nigerian Judges to bear in mind that they are the last hope hope of Nigerians, since the present National Assembly was an extension of the Executive branch.
“They are even more committed to the Presidency than the Ministers. If there is a bill to send all Nigerians to prison or hell fire, they will do it to please the President, to take Nigeriia land to give one ethnic group or a bill to arrest Judges at random. The hope of Nigerians are on the bench but if they fail, then all of us are in trouble” said Chief Anakwe.
The ex-Anambra State market leader decried the increasing dehumanising tendencies of the people by our law enforcement agencies because was the easiest way to get promotion.
He expressed his desire for PDP to win its petition against President Buhari at the Tribunal, so that there would be changes in the running of the country.
Chief Anakwe condemned the scheming to bring back the rested RUGA policy through the back door with the plan to introduce a bill, if passed and assented to will give Federal Government all the banks of rivers in the country.
“Maybe they want to use boats and canoes to attack communities in the country and disposses them of their land, now that their plot to use the forest has been exposed.Through that policy they will have access to our rivers and streams .They will take over all Southern Nigeriia because whoever takes over your River bank has deprived everything God has given you.It is like somebody saying he will occupy all your border. You won’t have access to the outside world” said Chief Anakwe.
He then charged Nigerians to vehemently resist the plot by occupying the National Assemblly if such a bill is introduced, saying that it is another veritable way of islamising Nigeria.
Chief Anakwe called on the APC led Federal Government to formulate policies that would reduce tension and bring permanent peace in the land, so that the people will contend with the poverty they have inflicted the people with instead of blood shed
