Govt Inaugurates Onitsha Drugs Market Caretaker Committee

The Anambra State Government has Inaugurated fresh Caretaker Committee for Patient Medicine Dealers Association popularly known as Ogbo Ogwu the event took place at Ekwueme Square Awka few days ago.

Performing the Inauguration, the Hon. Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Hon. Uchenna Okafor who stood in for His Excellency, Chief Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano, urged the committee with months mandate to ensure that peace and Government policies, especially COVID-19 protocols were maintained in and around the market even as the Hon. Commissioner however vowed to conduct a proper election for the union,once a ban on social distancing was lifted.

Speaking after the inauguration, the newly appointed Chairman of the Committee, Donatus Ajamma, said that his priorities is to forestall peace in the market, settle police alleged intimidation on the members, which he described as the most pressing problem at hand in the market. He went further to plead with Committee members to always work with him so that their common goal will be achieved.

Mr Anthony Chukwukerue Ezeoba,the immediate past Chairman speaking on their challenges said that the Police intimidation is their major challenge and they are trying to cope with them as much as they can and had taken some steps with both the Commissioners of trade and Commerce and Police to bring things in order.

Speaking further, the Caretaker Chairman stated thus; ‘though the war on fake drugs in the market is on a climax, my administration will consolidated with the efforts of our predecessors in this regard towards achieving it to a reasonable extent.

Stating that the relocation of the market to it’s Mega Center is their capital point, Mr. Ezeoba was of the view that their new site remains a challenge but consoled that with the assistance of the State Government, his Committee will surly triumph in accomplishing the project.

Contributing, a member of the Caretaker Committee, Mr Okechukwu Egbo on behalf of the other members, thanked the State Government for given them the opportunity to serve the traders “Market the move forward which is our target. We are going to will team up with the stakeholders and the traders as well to fight for any act of intimidation that would come from the security apparatus and God willing, settling various worrying fractions in the market is going to be our watchword.
