Former Abia Deputy Goveror debunks rumour of defection
By Ify Ashi, Umuahia
The former deputy governor ot Abia State Dr. Chris Akomas has debunked the rumour making the rounds that Akomas had defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP simply because he was seen in a delegation led by Elder Ken Emechebe at the capital city of Umuahia.
In a press release signed by comrade Chidi Asonye, Special Adviser on media to Chris Akomas organization said for the records, Elder Emechebe is the National Coordinator of Eastern Peoples Front of which His Excellency is the National Secretary.
He said the eastern peoples Front in conjunction with other prominent igbo organizations and development systems at this time in the political history of Nigeria is sensitizing and mobilizing the Igbo political bloc and indeed, Igbo people, where ever they reside in Nigeria on the need to re-strategize for the actualization of a stronger participation, effective partnership and position in the Nigerian political space.
“As a National Officer of the Front, the main objective is the overall interest of Ndi-Igbo in Nigeria, His Excellency Dr. Chris Akomas was among the executive members of the team for that all important sensitization and advocacy that took them to all the five Igbo speaking states of the South East geopolitical zone.
The Front will do what is necessary to change the wrong narrative about the actual voting strength of Ndi-Igbo in Nigeria which is underestimated and portrayed to be about 8 million instead of the over 26 million, hence it has become necessary to weigh our options well.
Dr. Chris Akomas former deputy governor of Abia state would not have detached from the entourage when the team paid a courtesy visit on the Governor of Abia State at the Government House because of party affiliations. The EPF though a socio-political organization is bi-partisan hence the membership cut across Party lines.
The Front encourages all Ndi-Igbo irrespective of their political party affiliation to ensure that our people are mobilized wherever they are to show strong interest and strength in the Nigerian political equation by making their voices and votes count.
As a Nigerian who has the freedom of association, Comrade Akomas who is also member Board of Trustee All Progressive Congress do not see anything wrong in pursuing the course of our people, which is greater than any single individual.
Furthermore, it is pertinent to mention, that as a strong-willed politician of repute, His Excellency Dr. Chris Akomas knows how to announce a change if and when he chose to. Therefore, he cannot sneak out of a gathering without making his movement known.
Accordingly, Dr. Chris Alozie Akomas, who also contested the last Abia governorship primaries under the platform of APC, hereby ask all his followers to remain calm.
