Senator representing Enugu North senatorial district, Sena Chukwuka Utazi has said that Federal Government has earmarked N40m for control of erosion at Onuiyi in Nsukka local government of Enugu state.
Utazi who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nsukka on Thursday said the money which was captured in 2019 budget was to ensure that erosion problems in Onuiyi was handled and controlled when the passed into law.
“As senator representing Enugu North, I made a case for it because of the danger posed by the gully erosion in that area, some buildings within the area have collapsed, and farmland washed away.
“The erosion at Onuiyi Nsukka has caused havoc especially during rainy season I am happy money has been budgeted for it, “he said.
He said that N70m was also in 2019 budget for the take-off of police station and barracks at Nkpologu in Uzowani local governments to checkmate series of robbery and kidnapping that frequently occurred along Nsukka/Adani road.
“the N70m is for the take-off since the amount can not be enough to build a station and barracks.
“But the money is for take off, clearing of the area, fencing it and doing some other things the amount can accommodate.
“For some time now robbers and kidnappers have been terorising drivers, passengers and other road users in that Nsukka /Adani road.
“With police station and barracks presence in that area it will stop this inhuman acts of these criminals and hoodlums.
“My greatest concern as senator representing the district is to ensure that lives and property in the area are safe and protected,” he said.
The senator said presently Adani rice market and farms were receiving serious attention as roads leading to Adani rice markets and farms were being constructed by federal government as well as infrastructures being upgraded for better performance.
“it is also as result of the motion I sponsored in senate over the deplorable state of 9thmile/ Makurdi road that government awarded contract for the dualization of that road at the cost of N5.4b.
“That 9thMile/Makurdi road is very important since its the only link road between the north and South East and South South,” he said.

“We should avoid hate speech, tribal and religious sentiment just to achieve cheap popularity.
” If politicians, INEC officials and security agencies play according to rules of engagements, the 2019 general elections will be credible, free and fair, “he said.
