Catholic Group offered free Medical care to Abia Students

Madonna Catholic hospital Umuahia Abia state in collaboration with a Non Governmental Organization Back to the Hero’s Past  (BATHEP) and a Corp member Ifeoma Nweke Who served in Madonna Catholic hospital, Umuahia yesterday offered Free eye medical care to secondary school students and their teachers.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the treatment, the hospital administrator, Madonna Catholic hospital and founder Of charity organization BATHEP Rev. father Christian Uche Anokwuru said the charity work is part of the hospitals and BATHEP mandate to help the less privileged.

He disclosed that the hospital and the NGO was inspired by the ordeal of the corper Ifeoma Nweke who said she nearly went blind as a primary school pupil because of eye problem, she noted  that her parents did not discovered the problem on time and that  when the eye  problem was eventually discovered and treated she was  yet to be  totally free even now as an adult regretted that most  people care less about their eyes.

Reformist newspaper witnessed free medical treatment among students and teachers of Ibeku High School, Umuahia and a total of 78 students and teachers benefited. Also eye test, free glasses and drugs were given out and further treatment for a students with glaucoma

He maintained that more schools and the poor in the society would be benefiting in the next phase coming up before the end of 2017.

The man of God used the opportunity to advised Nigerians to pay greater attention to their eyes, stressed the importance of eyes to human existence, he added that Madonna hospital is well equipped and capable of treating any eye problem.

He noted that BATHEP apart of visiting those in prison and providing for them, visiting the poor and motherless baby home and caring for them and giving out scholarship to indigent students, the NGO have also embarked on farming and entrepreneurship aimed at  training and providing more opportunities for indigent youths.

In appreciation, one of the benefiting students miss Favour Nwadinobi  thanked the corp member, Ifeoma Nweke, the hospital and BATHEP for the free eye checks and treatment, she noted that this was the first time they are getting this kind of free eye checks and treatment in the school

The principal of Ibeku High School Mr Ojike Kalu thanked the organizers of the free eye treatment in the school, he said when he received the letter from the corper, Ifeoma Nweke  indicating of the preparedness of herself as part of her community service to the public, Madonna hospital and BATHEP organization he was glad.

He disclosed that teachers of the school also benefited and called on wealthy Abians to emulate and  imbibe the spirit of charity for the wellbeing of students and people of the state.
