The founder of Abia Comet football club, coach Victor Nwakanma has shown his disappointment with former soccer star, Kanu Nwankwo for failing to identify with sports in his own state of Abia despite the recognition given to him by the state and the effort people like himself gave to him in his career.
The coach stated this in Umuahia stadium while answering questions from journalists shortly after the first Chijioke Nwankodo secondary school chess competition.
He said he expected  Kanu to bring his wealth of experience to bear, to help the younger ones in football in the state to  strive but regretted that Kanu have not shown any commitment despite the fact that the state government named one of the indoor hall in the stadium after him.
Nwakanma called on the state government to introduce and feature more sports to enable more participation in national competitions reiterated that there are talented youths in the state looking for the opportunity to represent the state in different sports.
The coach also appealed to the state government to always recognise and honour those who made the state proud  by winning laurels in state national and international competitions no matter the nature of sport noting that it would boost the morals of the winners and would spur them to do more.
He said he was always available to contribute his quota to the growth of sports in the state and called on wealthy individuals to help in sport development through sponsorship.
Nwakanma noted that chess was a mental game that requires quietness and concentration while he encouraged the students to take the game seriously noting that just like football the game of Chess can also take them to a greater height.
