As the 2019 governorship and state Houses of Assembly campaign across the thirty States of the federation begins, the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA governorship candidate for Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti has flagged of the campaign with presentation of his manifesto to the priest for special blessings.
Dr. Otti who flagged off his electioneering campaign at the Mater Dei Catholic Cathedral in Umuahia with a mass said his reason for coming to the house of God was to present himself and seek the face of God before embarking on the journey.
He told his audience made up mostly of adherents of the Catholic Church and members of APGA in the state, that there was no way the ugly acts of 2015 will be allowed to take place again.
Dr. Otti who said there is need to partner with the church declared that he chose to flag off his campaign from the temple of God because of his faith in the powers of God to do all things even as he urged the electorate to be vigilant during and after the elections.
In an interview shortly after the mass, Dr. Otti told Journalists that they should assist in sensitizing the electorate about voting rightly during the gubernatorial election in the state.
Otti who also revealed that the theme of his campaign is “enough is enough”, charged Abia electorate to be alive to their civic responsibilities and not to shy away from activities that will promote development of the state and urged Abians not to be complacent
Dr. Otti insisted that Abia voters are wiser this time around, saying that he came out prepared to liberate the state from darkness.
He therefore called on all hands to be on deck to eradicate what he called bad governance as the process of writing results are over and reiterating that he is not afraid despite the fact that APGA is not at the centre.
Speaking earlier, in his sermon, the Cathedral administrator of Mater Dei Catholic cathedral, Rev. Fr. David Aguneri encouraged politicians to be honest in their campaign promises and advised electorate not to sell their PVCs and votes.
While advocating for the spirit of sportsmanship and peaceful campaigns, the priest frowned that the society is gradually detorrating to dishonesty and urged Otti to be wise as many people who claimed to be supporting him, might be there to enrich their pockets.
The priest who read from Philippians 4 vs 8 and Proverbs 6 from 16 to 19 tasked the APGA guber candidate to pursue an issue based campaign just as he urged him to do away with bitterness while politicking across Abia for his ambition to become the next governor of the state , come 2019.
The priest condemned the use of thugs and the attendant violence that comes as its fallout admonishing both the politicians, parents and the youth to shun anything that will lead to dismembering the society or causing mayhem, fear and apprehension before, during and after the 2019 general elections.
The occasion witnessed the presence of other APGA candidates vying for various positions at both state and federal level.
